Privacy Policy
SyncTake records video on your phone and keeps it there. It has no account and no advertising, and your videos and audio never leave your device. To fix crashes and failed saves, SyncTake sends crash reports and save diagnostics to its developer, as described below. SyncTake does not sell or share your personal information.
What SyncTake records
When you start a recording, SyncTake records your camera and the audio playing in a compatible app on your device. If you turn on Record Microphone, it also records your voice. All recording, editing, and saving happens on your device. SyncTake does not send your videos or audio, including microphone sound, to its developer or to anyone else.
- Camera. SyncTake uses the camera to record your video.
- Microphone. Record Microphone is off until you turn it on, and then stays on until you turn it off. While it is on, SyncTake records sound from your phone's microphone, or from a connected microphone you choose on iPhone, so your voice can be mixed into the finished video with the audio playing on your device. The microphone sound is kept on your device, in SyncTake's private storage, and in the videos you save. It is never sent anywhere. When Record Microphone is off, SyncTake does not use the microphone for your video.
- Device audio on iPhone. SyncTake uses Apple's screen broadcast feature, which you start and stop yourself, to receive the audio other apps are playing. It does not save the screen picture, and it takes no sound from the broadcast's microphone. Your voice is recorded only through Record Microphone.
- Device audio on Android. Android requires the audio recording and screen capture permissions before an app can capture audio playing on the device, and the same audio recording permission lets SyncTake record your voice when you turn on Record Microphone. SyncTake uses these permissions only for that audio and does not save your screen. While it is capturing or saving, Android shows a notification.
Photos and Gallery
When you tap Save, SyncTake adds the finished video to Photos on iPhone or Gallery on Android. On iPhone, SyncTake asks for access to your Photos library so it can save videos and check whether an interrupted save finished. It doesn't read, upload, or analyze your other photos and videos.
What stays in SyncTake
Each recording stays in SyncTake's private storage on your device so you can trim and save it again. It stays there until you delete it in SyncTake or uninstall the app. Deleting a recording does not affect videos you've already saved to Photos or Gallery. A recording that couldn't be finished and can't be recovered is removed automatically seven days after it was last written.
SyncTake also stores your settings, such as your chosen file size, on your device.
Crash reports and diagnostics
SyncTake uses Sentry, a crash-reporting service, to tell its developer when the app crashes or a save doesn't finish. It sends:
- Crash reports. Where in SyncTake's code the crash happened, the app and operating system versions, your phone's model, its free memory and storage at the time, and a random ID created when SyncTake was installed.
- Save diagnostics on Android. When each save started and how it ended, including whether Android stopped SyncTake while it was saving, how long the recording is, the app and Android versions, and your phone's model and memory.
These never include your videos, audio, file names, titles, or what was playing. Sentry also receives your IP address, as any internet service does, and uses it to estimate your country. The reports are not linked to your name or email, are used only to fix problems in SyncTake, and are kept for Sentry's standard retention period. To ask for reports from your phone to be deleted, email us.
Tracking and advertising
SyncTake contains no advertising software and does not track you across apps or websites. If you have chosen to share diagnostics with Apple or Google, they may also give the developer anonymous crash and performance reports for SyncTake. You control this in your device settings.
People in your recordings
Your recordings may include other people and other people's audio. Only record people and audio you have permission to record.
Support requests
If you email support, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, screenshots, or device details. We use it only to answer your request and improve the app, and keep it only as long as needed for that and for legal compliance.
Children's privacy
SyncTake is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information in a support request, contact us so we can delete it.
Your choices
You can delete any recording in SyncTake, and remove everything SyncTake stores by uninstalling it. You can turn off Record Microphone in SyncTake at any time, and turn off camera, microphone, Photos or Gallery, and notification access in your device settings. Without camera access SyncTake can't record, and without Photos or Gallery access it can't save. On iPhone, without microphone access SyncTake still records, without your voice. On Android, the audio recording permission is also needed to capture the audio playing on your device. To ask about support records or crash reports, email us.
